A new start.

Ladies,

I'm sad to say my time writing this blog has sadly come to an end.

I'm sure this was all pretty obvious a while back when my posts were reduced to about one per month, and I never really had a chance to write as much as I wanted because I'm just too busy. I still always read everyone's blogs and comment when I can though!

I've loved being a beauty blogger and speaking to so many lovely people through it, but sadly I have a new project that's going to be taking up all my time...

I'm going travelling!!

Yes, somehow I'm going to have to limit my makeup stash to the bare minimum, ditch the heels, and live out of a suitcase for four months without my home comforts I once treasured so much!

Spending ban and customising things!

Afternoon ladies, I hope you're all having a great weekend :)

I just wanted to give an update on my spending ban as I've noticed a few things.

Firstly, it is virtually Impossible to not spend anything if you are going shopping with other people, and secondly, I'm crap at sticking to the rules BUT I have only bought 3 things in about a month. Is that good? Probably not. Oh dear....

One was a dress which I really needed for an event at work (which I couldn't go to in the end!) it was only £30 and I love it. I'll put up pictures when I get round to wearing it. The other two things were vintage shorts and a shirt that makes me look like a 'goat herder' apparently. Nice!

I've decided that if I really have the urge to go shopping I'll just have a mooch around vintage or charity shops instead. That way I don't buy loads, and I love vintage one of a kind things so it's all good.

Also, I've been customising a lot since the spending ban which I'm very happy about! I love getting creative when I get the time, designing and making outfits. Here's my most recent creation, I made some patches out of old dresses and used them to jazz up a pair of plain skinny jeans:

They look much better on, promise!

My next project will be replacing the buttons on a plain oversized cardigan with some big vintage pearl buttons I lovingly pinched from Big G's button stash. Love it.

Is anyone else a vintage lover or hardcore customiser or am I just a big cheapskate?

Hello lassies!

Again, apologies for the lack of posts. I'm just going to stop saying this soon because I'm never going to have the time to write more frequently :(

I know this isn't exactly fashion or beauty related, but you have to mix it up a bit! Plus, you know I love my food!

Basically, I have all these stomach/food problems bla bla you've heard it all before. ANYWAY, the lovely Jayne from my work (and Sainsbury's) has heard me bang on about all of this enough, so she sent me a very generously filled hamper full of Sainsbury's FreeFrom food and recipes for me to get stuck into.

For anybody who's not familiar with the FreeFrom range, it is basically a heap of food especially for people with different food intolerances like wheat, gluten, dairy, etc (what else is there?)

At the moment I'm cutting down on my gluten intake and avoiding any dairy or eggs, so I was particularly excited about the chocolate and cakes in this lovely selection.

I wanted to try a week eating one or two different meals from the range every day but I got a stupid stomach bug half way through the week so I wasn't able to stick to this. However, I still ate quite a lot of them- pre sickness, so here's a little of what I've tried so far...

Chicken Hotpot

(At work!)

Don't judge it on it's looks (although, as a Southerner, I've never had hotpot so I'm not sure what it should look like!) It was very tasty but not quite filling enough for me, I had to have a slice of FreeFrom bread afterwards to fill me up! 3/5

Hot Cross Buns

I loved these buns. I ate all four in two days. FATTYYY. They tasted just like regular hot cross buns, really fruity and full of flavour. I just toasted them and added a bit of dairy free butter and they were delicious. I'll definitely be buying these again! 5/5

Crimbles sage and onion Stuffing Mix
I was really excited to try this as I love my stuffing and I refuse to eat a roast without it! Sadly, I was a bit disappointed when I used it to accompany our roast chicken last Sunday. None of us could eat it! There was far too much sage and the after-taste was so bitter it really took away from the rest of the lovely dinner :( Regrettably, I can only give it a 1/5

Crimbles Bakewell Slices
These cakes were AMAZING. As you can tell by the picture, they didn't hang round for long. Still, longer than the caramel shortcake biscuits which didn't even make a photo!
I've eaten a lot of bakewell cakes before courtesy of Mr Kipling and I would go as far as to say these were probably even better! They are quite big too, so you don't feel like you have to eat two to get your full deserts worth (is it just me that gets this?!) 5/5 definitely getting these again!

I still have lots of food to get through, but these will do for now! Has anybody else tried anything from this range? What did you think of them?

The lovely Victoria sent me this award and demanded I pass it on :P So, here are my 7 random things about meeee!

1) I love singing, dancing and generally performing. Back in school I was in a ‘soul band’ (cringe at the name!) We sang some great songs, played a fair few concerts and won battle of the bands twice! Ahh memories :D

2) I don’t eat dairy or eggs. It’s not lactose intolerance it’s just one of the annoying diets I have to stick to for my IBS. My favorite food always used to be cheese! Doom.

3) I’m a massive lightweight when it comes to drinking! 2 glasses of wine and I’m gone! (Cheap date!)

4) I’m terrible at making decisions and when I eventually get round to making one it always seems to be the wrong one! I need a life advisor!

5) One thing I do know and have always known is that I really want to travel the world. There are so many amazing places out there I feel like I need to see every single one of them! I’m a proper hippy at heart, I can’t wait to let go of all my material possessions and do tons of crazy stuff while travelling :D

6) I’m a bit of a germophobe. I’m ill loads but if someone else is ill I can’t stand it I have to run away from them. My immune system is bad enough on it’s own I can’t be dealing with someone coughing all over me! Haha.

7) Although I’m a happy person (contrary to popular belief…) I do cry a lot. I can’t bottle it in! I cried at strictly come dancing last night, that’s how bad it’s gotten!

Spending ban and top 5 things

No, your eyes are not deceiving you, this is my second post of the week! I've decided to have a very lazy weekend for once making the most of having some me time :)

I have to tell you guys, I've imposed a spending ban! EEEK!

Sad times :(

It's killing me already but I really have to cut spending for a little while. I'm planning a few exciting things coming up which I will need a fair bit of money for, so in the mean time it's no more buying things I don't need and throwing money away when I have so many things already.

So from now on I'm going to be one of those points collecting, home-made soup making bargain hunters. My mother basically!

Anyway, enough rambling, here's my top five beauty and fashion favourites I've been using the past few weeks...

Garnier tinted eye roll on: The lovely Natalie at Headstream PR sent me this a few weeks back to try out (Thank you!) I was already a fan of the original eye roll on for those horrible 6.30am starts when I literally have to force my eyes to open! The formula for this version is the same in that it really makes my eyes feel fresh and more awake, but it also has a tint which helps conceal dark circles too. It doesn't give the best coverage for really dark circles as it is quite light, but it's really nice for freshening up the eye area :)

MUD lipglaze in 'Bare': A little something I picked up at IMATS and mentioned briefly here. It's the perfect peachy nude to stick on when I'm not feeling a lipstick day. It's also really long lasting and not too sticky, so a great gloss in my eyes.

No7 Colour Calming primer: I GOT A PRIMER! I've never bothered before as I don't like to spend too much time putting on makeup in the mornings, I'd rather be in bed! But this little beaut is great for smoothing out my complexion and providing me with an even colour base to counter out my blotchy red faced break outs. (Especially when drinking!) The colour is a little strong, but mixed in well with a good foundation (Revlon Colourstay mostly) it works wonders and doesn't leave me looking like the grinch. Oh and it doesn't dry out my skin too so I get a good dewy finish.

Neutrogena Rapid Clear face wipes: Ok, not the most exciting of all products, but it is a must have! These wipes come in very hand on nights when I can't face the old cleanse tone and moisturize routine . Most wipes do the job for taking off my makeup in a hurry, but these are also amazing for getting rid of spots and clearing up my skin. I had the hugest spot on my face the day before Amsterdam, then I tried out these babies and BAM, no spot. Hurrah! There is a spot fighting cure for us lazy folk after all!

And last but by no means least:

These beautiful bargains from H&M! They were about £15 if my memory serves me correctly (probably not!). I love the style, love the colour and even love the cute inside detailing. They're comfy too which I suppose is the most important part :P I can't wait until it gets a little warmer so I can wear these without my toes freezing off.

That's all for the moment. Hopefully I will still have lots to write about despite the fact that I can't really buy anything new. Hmmm. Anyway, I'm always welcome to new ideas/questions/tags/suggestions etc so feel free to send them my way.

I got a little bored a while ago and started attacking my little brother and friend with some of my old make-up. It's not massively creative, just a bit of fun!

New Tumblr

Hey ladies,

I've been so crap AGAIN! I literally have no time in my life right now for regular and in-depth blogging it seems. I have tried but alas, juggling a job with long hours, an on/off long distance relationship and an (occasional) social life is proving virtually impossible right now.

So, in the mean time I have turned once again to the faithful world of microblogging. It is so much quicker and easier. I originally hated Tumblr and called it the lazymans' blogger, but, now I suppose I am the lazyman, I'm finding it pretty useful for quickly popping a few notes down and a nice picture here and there!

Britains next fail model

I like to try and make sure I do something different and spontaneous every now and then, so when I saw a photographer friend advertising that he needed a model for a day, I thought, why not!

Carlo and Fabiana are two of the genuinely nicest people I have ever met so it was an absolute pleasure to help them out when a model fell ill the day before Carlo was due to hold his 'Shaping Locations' course.

Anyway, I had a lot of fun, I met some lovely (gorgeous) models and I got to see some great photographers at work. I didn't even moan too much that it was freeeezing outside :P

New makeup!

This was a good weekend for new purchases! IMATS on Saturday contributed tremendously of course, and I now have lots of new things to amuse myself with until my next 'haul' (still hate that word, sorry!)

First things first, IMATS was SO busy I didn't get to go to any of the seminars, and some counters were so rammed I couldn't even see the products on offer.

The best thing about the event (aside from gawping at the amazing models) was getting to discover new products which I would never know about or get to try out.

The only word to describe this picture is FIERCE!

I was a bit in love with this one!

Babooooon!

There were a few brands that really stood out for me, including Naked cosmetics, Crown Brushes, Eve Pearl makeup and MUD.

Naked cosmetics had the biggest range of pigments I have ever seen! The come in little pots similar to Barry M and they had literally every colour imaginable. I was fascinated at how they could be mixed with water and even lip gloss and still look amazing. I really wanted to get some samples of these to try out, but I wasn't feeling generous enough to fork out the £60 they wanted for a stack of six colours.

Next there were the Crown brushes which I know a lot of bloggers have already been using and loving. I had hoped to get a brush set (with roll) for a very reasonable £20 but the crowds were so big and they wouldn't let me pay on card there which was a pain, but I will probably be buying these online soon :D

Eve Pearl cosmetics were also really impressive, the pallets were great for all complexions and also, how nice is Eve?! Sherin and I were talking to her for ages and watching her work her magic!

Now, on to my favourites... Make up designory (MUD). I was drawn to this stall as I am a sucker for eyeshadows and they had a large range on display staring at me! I got to speak to the vice president of the company and he gave me lots of gorgeous products to sample which are so perfect for me. I got a 12 pan pallet of neutral shades which I love as well as a lip glaze and lipstick in a nude/pink colour (another favourite) and some lip liners too. So yes, extremely happy with these. The colours are brilliantly pigmented, they have a very extensive range and all the products were designed by makeup artists, so they really know what we want :)

Lots of lovely stuff to try! Also check those feather lashes I can't wait to crack them out!

Woah I have written way too much already. I have lots more to share with you but I will save it for another, more structured post, sorry!

Has anyone else tried any of these products? Am I just really slow off the mark? Probably... Still, thoughts please!

Aussie day in Leeds

Evening ladies!

Just a quick one about my night in Leeds yesterday working with the Aussie angels who were hosting their own Australia day party.

Daisy, Kelly and Victoria were the three lovely bloggers who were chosen to host the event, we merely provided them with a budget and helped them organise whatever they wanted to celebrate in style :)

After getting off to a fairly rocky start what with being late getting to the venue, then having issues with ID and unnecessarily strict doormen, the rest of the night went much more smoothly (thank god!)

Tiger Tiger's Groovy Wonderland was kitted out to the max with Aussie flags, a ton on inflatables and of course the all important Australian celebs masks. Ahh Harold you sexy beast.

I had a great time meeting the lovely northern lot again and breaking my back doing limbo! We took loads of pictures on a very snazzy (yes, snazzy) instant camera, but here's a few others I took on my own camera which should sum it all up pretty nicely!

It was a looooong drive from London to Leeds, but with a car full of inflatables and a lot of cheesy music we made it in the end!

Back in the game!

Hello ladies... Did you miss me? Feel free to lie :-)

I'm sorry for being a stranger, but you should know that during my blogging absence I've still been following all your blogs like the little silent stalker that I am just wishing I could find the time to get back into it again.
So anyway, I know I wont be able to post as much as I did over the summer, but I will give it a good shot because my god we have a lot to catch up on!
I wont ramble on with stories of the past few months, but here are a few pictures that should sum it all up pretty nicely...

I know bonfire night was ages ago but this still makes me chuckle!

The amazing goody bag I got at the Revlon Double Twist launch. It was such a lovely afternoon tea and cakes the Dorchester :) My love for Cherries in the snow has been reignited, and the new colour stay foundations are spot on!

I met some lovely ladies at the Tampax swishing party we hosted at work. Clothes, cupcakes and trannies makes for a brilliant night!

New Years eve at Punk! Was a strange night and most of it a blur, but was fun!

Snowww! It drove me mad when I had to get to work, but was worth it for the late night sledding!

Ahh it's good to be back, I've missed this crazy little community we have here :-) Oh and P.s, yes, I still haven't found a kind person to help me make my blog as buff as I had hoped, so we're stuck this this old-but slightly altered- version for the forseable future!

These straighteners are doing the rounds!

This weekend I finally got round to trying out the Remmington Wet2Straight straighteners I was sent about a week ago. I think Remmington must have cottoned on to my slight obsession with them, after my continuous plugging of the Spin Curls hair dryer (I was never sent them to review or anything, I just got given them as a present and fell in love).

I will admit at first I was a little weary, purely as despite what they say, it has GOT to be bad for your hair just blasting it with 200 degree heat and ironing it until it's dry. Still, anything that gets me more time in bed and makes my hair effortlessly fabulous is great for me once in a while (hence my love for Spin Curls!)

My first attempt was... well... a bit of a disaster. I didn't bother pinning my hair into sections as I was feeling particularly lazy, so I found it really hard to separate my wet hair and the bits I had already straightened. I also noticed that it took quite a while for the hair to dry, so ended up going over some sections so many times it ended up being more time consuming than if I had've just blow dried it first. I do have quite thick hair though, so perhaps the finer hair folk would have better luck.

In the end, after about 30 minutes of faffing about whether my hair was dry enough, I decided that it needed more heat (some bits were still damp!) and had to blow dry it some more (eek!)

I thought I would then try out the dry function, and straightened my hair some more (it really took a bashing this weekend!) and this is where it really excelled itself. The plates smoothed down my frizzy hair and made it so easy to manage. I've had GHD's for 5 years, so it takes a lot to impress me on the straightener front, but these really did. And the best bit is, the next day I went out in the rain, and it didn't frizz up or even curl at the ends. Now either I have completely destroyed my hair, or these straighteners are amazing! I'm hoping for the latter. I also noticed that it didn't get greasy as quick as it usually does, despite using heat protecting spray, and getting rained on! I hope this is a permanent thing, as I hate having to wash my hair every other day.

I have only had a day or two to play around with these straighteners, but I am keen to try again and see if I have better results with them on the wet function next time. I really like the fact that you can choose what temperature to use depending on your hair, this is something my GHD's can't offer me, and something I take comfort in when I'm feeling particularly guilty for using so much heat on my hair!

My brother (a reformed metrosexual) has been eyeing them up so I think we may be seeing a little post with him as a product tester again, watch this space!

Huge apologies for the noticeable lack of pictures, my camera is in't menders (or in my drawer waiting to be sent off for mending...) but hopefully I will have a new one soooon.

Yessss, sorry about the lack of posts recently! Here are a few excuses for you:

I have been working very long hours and falling asleep at 10pm
My dad has been trying to move his new woman in and there is huge family beef
I can only blog on weekends
I have been ill
My boyfriend left me for the rain forest
I haven't bought anything
I ran away to join the circus
My phone broke
The Blogging community has gone sour
My dog ate it

Fin? Yeah, I slipped a few fibs in there too, just to keep you guys on your toes...

In other news... What the hell has been going on in our nice little on line girly community? People quitting their accounts, going mental at each other and there just seems to be lots of bad feelings going about! I think we should all remember that us bloggers are here because we enjoy it, and it's our place to be as materialistic as we like without boring our 'offline' friends/colleagues/complete strangers (?!) to tears talking about the latest Mac collection, or line at Topshop.

If you get to the stage where blogging, Youtubing or even Tweeting is just not enjoyable any more, then don't do it, just don't be run off by people being bastards to you. Unfortunately there will always be people out there who get a kick out of hiding behind a computer screen and thinking they can be as nasty as they please for whatever reason. Just rise above it that's what I say!

Honestly, why can't we all just get along and play nice? :) Good I'm glad that's sorted.

Oh wait, can't believe I forgot to mention this, my camera broke!! I am so annoyed. I took it out to take photographic evidence of the crazy fireworks party we had at my house and it just froze. This is the second time my little Samsung has failed me and I am not happy one bit. I'm now saving up for an SLR as I want to take better pictures, mine are frankly poo and I am well aware of this!

I will have to find a quick solution so I can work my way through the list of blog posts without having no pictures at all. And a blog with no pictures is like erm, a face with no nose...

Review: Garnier HerbaShine

I finally bit the bullet, stopped being a wimp, and coloured my hair! This was a big thing for me as it took years to grow out some dodgy colours I have used in the past.

One of many being the horrible incident involving a lot of bleach, the ‘cap of doom’ and a house hairdresser- you know the ones who randomly come to your house to cut your mum/nan’s hair because they’re probably not good enough to have their own salons? Well yes, I was a very ugly grey haired 14 year old because of that!

Back to the point…

I saw this product waay back at the Garnier event where I had originally chosen a light brown. Why? Who knows. So I decided that this colour wasn’t for me, and with it being Autumn and all, I opted for a nice bowny red colour- ice mahogany brown to be exact.

I don’t know why they rave about it only taking 10 minutes, if anything I think I would prefer it to take longer so I don’t have to rush like mad to apply it before it starts developing and I end up patchy!

Still, I donned the giant sized gloves provided (why are these always so rubbish?) and started applying the colour. I did get a tad freaked out when I was applying it and it was already looking so dark and red, but I persevered anyway.

After washing it out, staining the entire bathroom (sorry Dad!) and conditioning, I was actually very impressed!

You can't really see the red that much here, but it's better than it was before anyways!

The colour is exactly what I wanted, a rich brown with subtle hints of red. Another thing I have to point out is how soft and shiny my hair is now. I was really worried my hair would feel brittle or damaged but it looks and feels lovely, even if I do say so myself :)

I hope Garnier can make this into a permanent colour so I don’t have to keep dying it now that I have found a shade I really like!

I love stumbling across new (and inexpensive!) products and designers, so when my friend at work recommended this line I got incredibly excited and I am already planning things to order!

NearFar is an ethical clothing line which works with organisations in Sierra Leone, providing the unemployed with work in the tailoring industry, and fashionistas with gorgeous inspired designs.

According to the website: "Ten years of Civil War has left the country with many uneducated and unemployed young people. Many of the tailors have lived as street children, been victims of commercial sex trade or been subjected to domestic abuse. Through building relationships with these tailors, NearFar has been able to help them profit from their skills and rebuild a life of stability for themselves and their families. NearFar’s commitment to this cause is demonstrated by the fact that 10% of all sales is reinvested into the training"

The brand can certainly prove themselves as ethical and unique, but what about the designs?

NearFar claim to provide an 'alternative to the mass-produced and an antidote to the mundane.'

This is certainly clear in their bold West African inspired prints and fine tailoring. Although the selection is small, there is still plenty to choose from including handbags, dresses, shorts and skirts, and most items of clothing come in a variety of different prints.

I am a big fan of bright, funky designs and so far I am finding it hard to decide which I like the most! At the very reasonable price of around £35 for a pair of amazing high wasted print shorts, and £55 for a shift dress, it is easy to get carried away and want a little of everything!

I think I may actually be a shopaholic!

Since finding out I have a job about 3 weeks ago I have been shopping a RIDICULOUS amount of times. I think this is due to the fact that a) I was sick of dressing like a student (leggings, massive jumpers etc) and needed more smart clothes b) I will be earning a proper wage and will no longer have to rely on the overdraft or wherever the hell else my money used to come from?!

But still, I have gone a little overboard me thinks, considering I haven't even been paid yet and probably won't be for some time yet.

Off the top of my head I can recall blowing £100 on Asos, £80 in H&M, a fair bit in Topshop and more than I had expected in Dorothy Perkins- I told you their Autumn shoes are just too good! As for makeup I haven't splashed out that much at all. I have ordered some stuff from Mac which should be arriving soon but other than that it has just been a few essentials!

Anyway, is this really bad or am I just being stupid? I've got so many more things I want it's like I've unleashed the shopping beast I had in my first year of uni again oh dear!

On a more positive note, I might do another video of just an update and show you a few of the things. This is only a maybe, I am still camera shy yet! But, yes, opinions on everything please ladies! :)

Ginger drama and rant!

Hello folks, sorry for the lack of posts recently. I'm afraid it isn't likely to be much better as I start my new job on Monday and I am going to be busy busy busy but I will try and make time to blog whenever I can!

Back to the point...

I wanted to share with you my traumatic experience I received today, while having my hair cut at the Ginger Group hair salon in Enfield. For those who haven't heard of them you can read more info here.

The reason I went is because I have given up trying to grow my hair (of course) and wanted a nice wavy bob after seeing this picture:

HOWEVER, I had a bad experience at my local salon (run by middle-aged chavs) after they cut my hair wonky and not short enough. I know, I know, but I was drawn in by the (very) cheap price.

So, of course I needed it done again and chose the Ginger Group as I didn't want to go to Tony and Gay and Adee's salon was booked up. Limited options!

It started off all well and good as a nice not-too-young-not-too-old 'Senior stylist' invited me over for my consultation. I told her all about my wonky barnet which she blatantly thought I did myself, and showed her a few pictures whilst subtly suggesting that if she mucks it up I will be one un happy customer.

THEN I had this chap give me the most vigorous shampoo known to man with scolding hot water. I literally thought he was trying to rip my head off or probe my brain with his bare hands. "Is this Ok for you?"

Well, I have no skin left on my head and you've given me a headache, but please, continue!

The next few minutes were a little better, the hair cut was good, no "Wevvers noice t'day aint it!?" and I felt like she was actually concentrating on what she was doing instead of just hacking away at my precious bob.

It all turned rather sour when she offered me the option of curling my hair (supposedly like in the picture above) instead of having it blow-dried straight.

Marvellous.

Little did I know that what she actually meant was she will spray an entire bottle of product on my hair, scrunch it, then sit me under a heater for 30 minutes whilst she went off on FACEBOOK! So as I sat there cooking under the dryer which was clearly failing at drying my hair, she went off for her break and popped back once or twice to whack another 10 minutes on the clock.

Eventually I got so annoyed with sitting watching my hair drip dry and not curl AT ALL, I decided to confront her and say that it wasn't what I asked for and that I just wanted her to dry it so I could leave.

By this point I had a complete frizzy mess and I was so red from the heat (and anger) I just wanted to run to my car and cry. She then tried to make things better by offering yet more product and scrunching it with her fingers which reeked of cigarettes, then making my hair smell too.

I was so angry and grossed out by my disgusting cigarette smelling hair that I just got up gave her the money and left as soon as I could! I paid more because I asked for a senior stylist, instead of a graduate, but honestly wish I hadn't bothered. When I got home and told my friend who said I definitely should have complained. I really wish I took a picture of the mess she created, but I had to wash my hair straight away to get the smell and product out! If your looking for a rough idea, this demonstrates it quite nicely:

Yes, its that time again!

Cheesy title AND a list of products/random things I am loving at the moment. Lucky readers :-P

1.) Aussie 'the best smell in the world' miracle shampoo and conditioner. I can't actually get enough of this stuff since receiving my samples at the Aussie event. Originally I could never understand how people could pay about £3/4 for a bottle of shampoo (cheapskate) but now every time I wash my hair it is so worth it! The gorgeous sweet, nutty smell lasts for days, even after blow drying and using products. I have actually caught myself sniffing my own hair at times. Slightly obsessive me thinks?!

2.) Maybeline dream mousse blusher. When I first saw this I thought it was something I wouldn't be using much, as it looked shocking pink in the pot and I had never tried a cream blush before. I live a sheltered makeup life... Anyway, I gave it a go and rubbed a little in onto my satin finished skin et voila! Instead of causing a blotchy, cakey mess, I got a lovely natural and surprisingly subtle blush. I will definitely be repurchasing this once its gone!

3.) Mini dresses and boots. Yes, the celebs were doing it ages ago, but I'm still not bored of it. Effortless sexy glam, a la Alexa Chung.

4.) Dorothy Perkins shoes. How good is their AW collection? I already bought two pairs! *Slapps wrists* And they are offering a generous 15% discount for students on certain collections so I say the more the merrier!

5.) Scholl Crackling Ice foot spray. This stuff is actually insane. I think Scholl may have actually created a weapon with this stuff. Remember popping candy, or space dust? The stuff that looks perfectly harmless until you put it on your tongue and your head feels like its going to explode from all the popping?! Well, this is essentially the same thing but in a mouse and supposedly for your feet. I say supposedly because, unless you suffer from numbness of the foot, or you never react to being tickled, then it is virtually impossible to spray it on your feet without feeling like your getting the tickling attack from hell! It's not just me who bursts into hysterics every time I use it, I have attacked various family members with the stuff and since been accused of 'foot rape'.

However, after you get over the initial 'Oh my god what is happening to me' feeling as the mouse crackles and tingles on your skin', it actually leaves you feeling pretty good and I have since found myself getting a little addicted to the crazy sensation and going back for more!

Alternatively, if you don't want to use it on your feet, as I said, it makes a very good mace for self defence purposes! :P

I think I'll leave it there with all the talk of macing! What are you all rating at the moment? Shaare! :)

Scholl Party Feet On Off Party (Picture heavy!)

So, yes, Saturday night was THE night! And what a great one it was too :D

The frolics started early for me and 'plus one' Bhavna (of Wardrobe) as we arrived at our gorgeous hotel at around 4. This left us two hours to get ready *thumbs up*, and no time to eat *thumbs DOWN*

Thank you for the outfit help ladies, I settled on this pretty simple dress in the end. The shoes were the best part but I have no picture of them :(

After a packet of crisps and a lot of sparkle later, we hit the lobby to meet the Scholl sista's (lol) and Myriad PR lovelies as well as the winner and other runner up and hit the party.

The event took place at 180 The Strand underneath the exhibition halls and in the same room as where the On Off catwalks had been taking place. And the catwalk was still there for us to prance around on and dance once we had some dutch courage!

As soon as we reached the door we were met with champers and some topless chaps who were handing out some much needed Scholl products- a very clever idea considering how most people had been on their feet all day at the catwalk shows!

Hello there!

After polishing off our first Margaritas, Bhav and I decided it was time to work the room and do some serious shmoozing! This is when we stumbled accross fellow blogger Janaka and her friend Sindy and discovered that four were, indeedd, much better than two.

Amongst the crowds of designers, fashionistas and overly flirty french men, we then managed to spot Boy George(!) as well as Jodie Harsh and Martine McCutcheon. A random selection indeed, but a good one at that.

The night continued with a brilliant set from Soul II Soul and another from DJ's Pandora's Jukebox, coupled with a few more cocktails and some crazy stage dancing. (The party feet came in particularly handy at this stage!)

The party rounded off at around 11 leaving us with plenty of time to get back to our hotel and eat the biggest sandwich known to man, then fall asleep like the crazy party people we are!

Good grief that's a hefty sandwich!

All in all it was a really brilliant night and I am so happy and grateful to have been chosen. A massive thank you has to go to Louise Bowles at Myriad PR for everything, and of course the rest of the Scholl and Myriad girls for organising it all and treating us like princesses :)

Scholl party feet blog girl- Runner up!

So I didn't win the competition :(* but I did make runner up! Hurrah! :)

This means I don't get front seats at the On Off catwalk shows during London Fashion Week but I dooo get to go to the On Off party and mingle with all the journalists and possibly designers? I'm not even sure who's going but it is going to be mega. Also, I got £100 spending money, £100 of Scholl products, a pair of their new A/W '09 shoes and overnight stay in a plush hotel for two (not that I've decided who I'm taking yet ooops). NOT BAD!

Can you tell I'm excited?

Anyway, the point of this post isn't to brag (I'm not, promise!) but to ask for your help lovely bloggers. I don't know much about the On Off party *hangs head in shame* and I am getting in a right faff over what to wear. Obviously I have already been shopping. Twice. However, what ever I buy I'm thinking, is it formal enough? Is it too formal? I only have until Saturday, so if any one has any ideas for some killer outfits they think might be suitable, feel free to let me know! Right now I'm thinking black, studs, sequins and short ;)

Maybelline and Aussie pampering event

I couldn't subject you to another Maybelline event blog post as there are so many going round at the moment, so I thought I would just sum up my recent activities in one nice ~~boring~~ insightful post for you!

THURSDAY was another lovely event where I got to catch up with fellow bloggers, in particular the 'Leeds massive', learn more about the Maybelline New York brand and of course try out lots of nice new products. The main two being the new Pulse Perfection mascara and the Colour Sensational lipsticks both of which I have already been trying out.

So far I am loving pretty much all the lipsticks- particularly galactic mauve which is something I would never normally have gone for, but I love it. They are very creamy and glide on nicely, however the staying power isn't great, unlike their 12 hour products which you literally cannot get off your face for about two days!

The vibrating mascara is a bit of a sore subject at the moment because I really had high hopes for this and was quite excited to try it, but so far I've found it pretty pointless. Although it lengthens, it makes my lashes really 'spidery' and doesn't curl at all. It is certainly not a worth rival for Rimmel Sexy Curves (*cough* much cheaper) I love that stuff.

FRIDAY was one of those 'I can't leave the house I'm waiting for a phone call' days. I was waiting to see if I was the chosen one for Scholl's competition. Alas, they have moved it to Monday. Cue the panicking.

SATURDAY was my first shift back at Tottenham football ground. I work in one of the executive suits there and serve the rich folks some very expensive champers and food. It's actually really fun working there because we get to see people like Alan Sugar, the Redknapps, various players and WAGs!

Anyway, after work we (the BFF, Emma and I) dashed off to the Aussie pampering event for some blow dry action from Adee Phelan*. We got to meet lots of lovely bloggers, as well as Thom, Lauren, Tim and Camilla from 1000 Heads and have our hair premed to perfection by the stylists using the gorgeously smelling Aussie products. We then headed off to the Hospital (club) for some raw whores and wasabi nuts. Yup...

I had a great time meeting everyone and being pampered, so a big thank you to the 1000 heads team, to Aussie, and Adee Phelan for the kind use of his salon!

Poor guy, we cornered him and he couldn't escape the paps!

Garnier VS Body Shop skincare

Garnier Pure Active and The Body Shop Aloe range are the two skin care products I have been trying out over the past month or so in order to make my skin as flawless as possible. Here I'm putting them head to head to decide which is better in terms of effectiveness/smell/price/shelf life etc.

Please remember though, this is just my opinion, and every one's skin is different. Things that may work for some people may not work as well for others, and vice versa.

Firstly, I tested out all the Garnier Pure Active range...

Blackhead Scrub- This smells fresh, doesn't feel too grainy despite the microbeads and can be applied gently without ripping your face off. However, it is a little gooey and if you don't take care washing it all off, it may lead to 'snotty face' (technical term, ~~don't~~ look it up). You know, when half way through the day you touch your face and you find a gooey patch or a little microbead. Not cool. Aside from that though, it's A-OK.

Deep Pore Wash- Nice consistency, smells like 'boy', but bearable. I use it before I go to bed. Naturally it hasn't really improved my horrible random patch of spots (gross) but it does make my face feel nice and clean before I go to bed, and that's always a good thing.

Facial Toner- I hate toners. As a dry skin sufferer, there is no place in my life for toners. But, in the name of beauty and for my love of you, dear followers, I gave it a go. Never again will I do that. It smelt even stronger of 'boy', almost burnt my face off, and just generally wasn't a pleasant experience. I gave it to my brothers though (greasy skinned chaps) and they seem to quite like it, although there were a few grumbles like 'I've still got spots' but that's just from your average unclean, spotty teen isn't it, really!

Spot-on Roll on- The name is a bit of a tongue twister- and a cheesy one at that, but aside from that, it is an average spot treater. I say average because I have had better, but I've also had worse. I actually quite like the roll on- contrary to popular opinion. It feels a bit like your deodorising your face, but again, it makes you feel clean. (I clearly have a complex about feeling dirty!) If you have a big hum dinger and want it gone by the morning, don't rely on this. But if you have a few little pimples and you need something to reduce the redness then I suggest this for you, and your brothers/boyfriends/dads(?).

Spot Fighting 24 Hour Moisturiser- I love this. But, I love it as a moisturiser and nothing more, as that is all it is good for. It has a lovely fresh scent, it's non greasy and very economical. It doesn't particularly 'fight spots', but it doesn't contribute to them or cause them, as others can do. It is a staple in my house hold, and seems like it works for everyone.

Garnier Pure Active cleans skin and helps fight spots (slowly), but it will make you smell like like an adolescent boy. The price is affordable, around £2 for each product, and available in all pharmacies and supermarkets.

Body Shop Aloe range is recommended for 'Skin that needs gentle care '. So sensitive skin basically. It is a right pain having sensitive skin because if you have a spot or any blemishes, there's not really much available that you can use without burning your face off with an acid like toner/spot treatment, or waiting for days for your 'super sensitive' product to kick in and clear the damn things away.

Still, the Aloe range don't really claim to fight spots, they just aim to 'soothe and protect' the skin. This is something the products really manage to do successfully.

Calming Face Cleanser- A really simple, creamy cleanser. Squeezes out, rubs in smoothly and wipes off makeup or dirt or whatever you have on your face pretty easily. It almost feels like you are cleansing with a moisturiser as it is so creamy and smooth. The smell is light and doesn't linger, but the clean feeling does. A great basic cleanser, but if you require more intensive cleansing then this probably won't not be enough for you.

Calming Toner- I know what your thinking. Calming? Toner? Those words don't mix? Well, on the one occasion I did try this (I'm sorry, I just hate using toners!) I used it after the cleanser and it felt like it was finishing off the job quite nicely. My face felt even cleaner and there was no sign of irritation or burning. I still don't quite see the point of them though myself, sorry!

Gentle Face Wash- Feels like your washing your face with a foamy version of the toner. That's it. Oh, and I have used it every night (when I remember) for a while, and my skin does seem a bit clearer, so yes, it also seems to fight spots!

Soothing Moisturiser spf 15- The downfall of this range in my eyes. The product is so greasy it is like applying a cheap suncream which doesn't intensely moisturise, it just sticks on the surface like a big shiny mess. I used this once, I hated it. I then went back to it and my feelings were still the same. Boo hiss.

The Aloe range serves well for essential-yet basic-cleansing, toning and purifying. However, add the moisturiser in and you get a horrible greasy mess to your freshly cleansed skin. The products are slightly more pricey around the £6 mark, but you know what your getting and there are no false promises to 'rid your skin of spots after one application', yet it does help unclog pores thus prevent spots. Genius.

Scholl Party Feet competition

When I found out Scholl were offering this I knew I had to enter.

Every one has heard of Scholl, right? They help get us nice non smelly/cracked/ugly feet! They also created Party Feet and the new Party Feet Snowflake edition, which, unless you are a man, I am certain you already know about and have at least one pair!

Well, they have been are running the most amazing competition to become a blog girl for the company and be part of London Fashion Week, starting on the 18th of September. Clearly for someone like me this is probably the best opportunity ever! I have wanted to go every year since I was about 15 (back when I thought I could be a famous fashion designer). Seriously, though, I look at all the people in the front row and think 'I wish that was me'. That's when you know you've made it. In my eyes anyway. (I know you can pay to go every year, but I wanted to go as a writer and actually be part of the event! )

Not only that, they give you an iPhone to keep, put you up in a hotel AND you get to attend the on|off after party and mingle with the other important folk.

So of course I entered straight away. I will find out tomorrow if I stand a chance of winning. I know I won't be able to sleep until then because I'm already nervous just thinking about it! Project Angel

If any of you lot follow me on Twitter, I'm sure you're aware of my manic stress over an Aussie treasure hunt. If not (why not? :-P) then I will explain kindly for you now.

Aussie, the company that make the most gorgeous sherbety(?) smelling hair care, have set up a 3 part event for 50 of us bloggers. The first part started on Friday, when I received this in the post...

...along with a little gold key. Naturally I panicked. "What the hell do I have to do. Agghhh what does this mean? What if I can't find it" etc etc. It took me until Saturday, which was the day of the 'treasure hunt', to work out where I had to go and persuade the Mr to come with me incase I got lost :)

Thankfully, it was pretty easy after I cracked the code National Treasure styley. Even had the 3D glasses, not that they helped much.

I gathered that Chelsea Farmers' market was on Sydney Street in Kensington and smugly made my way there. Straight away I saw a big silver box and a bored looking man sitting on a bench next to it.

I thought he was either a) homeless or b) the nice (real) Aussie man called Thom. Thankfully it was the latter.

Thom let me unlock the 'Silo' and gave me my treasure. Hurrraaaah! I didn't quite know what to do after that. Buy him a drink? Hug him? I settled on neither (sorry Thom) and skipped merrily back to the tube to open my goodies. Exhibit A:

So many gorgeous smelling Aussie shampoos and conditioners YUM, a £50 spa voucher AND a £25 Topshop gift card. All in all it was a great fun adventure, just a little stressful for anxious people like me!

Jumping for JoY

Hooooow nice are JoY?

I'll answer that. VERY nice. They teamed up with the new Ford Ka to bring us Go Find It (hence the picture of a Ka in my sidebar!) Bascially, they invited 14 bloggers and their plus ones to the JoY clothing store near London Bridge, and set up a fun little treasure hunt for us all.

Our aim was to find these cute miniature Ka's which were hidden around the store, and redeem them as vouchers to spend on the gorgeous clothes they had in store.

The Go Find it team welcomed us with some adorable (and tasty) cupcakes and champage, but we were all too anxious to get our hands on the cars and get shopping!

Thankfully, we managed to compose ourselves, and there was no shin kicking, hair pulling or cat fighting as there were enough cars for all of us- hurrah!

The cars were worth an extremely generous £60, so it was very hard to whittle all my bundles of clothes/accessories/jewellery down to an affordable amount. Of course I went over the £60 but I didn't mind as I loved everything there and I am very happy with what I got!

New dress. The picture doesn't do it justice at all. It is lovely though, take my word for it!

For anyone that hasn't been to a JoY store, I think you should definitely have a look online. They remind me a bit of Urban Outfitters and they have really great stuff for men and women.

Also (it keeps getting better doesn't it) if you visit one of their stores on a Friday in September, you can win the chance of finding one of the cars for yourself and getting vouchers to spend in store! Have a look on the Go Find it site for a version of that which will probably make more sense!

Also, the event was being filmed *cringe* so they may just be some footage of us scurrying round tearing the shop apart! I will put it up if it isn't too incriminating haha :)

Autumn awaits

Those of you who have followed me since the 'Makeover My Mate' days will know that this blog was originally more of a fashion blog, where I gave loads of makeovers and fashion advice. However, my beauty obsession has taken over somewhat, and I need to get back to my beloved fashion roots if I am ever going to land my dream job as a 'proper' journalist. I.e, with a paycheck!

Anyway, what better time to get back into the swing of things than with London Fashion Week fast approaching!

I know it's all about Spring/Summer '10 style, but I just couldn't bring myself to write about things that we won't be wearing for about another 6 months. I wanted to talk about Autumn instead as summer is pretty much over for us now *sobs*

Here's a quick run down of the things those designer folk think we should all run out and buy to replace our maxi dresses and flip flops. 'But I love my flip flops'.... Hmm... well... it's time to let go now.

KEY PIECES- Look out for these to help bring you into Autumn/Winter style without buying mountains of new clothes:

1.) Leather jacket

Gone are the days when leather was reserved for heavy metal fans and burly bikers. It is back with a vengeance and, provided you keep it black and unzipped, you're on to a winner! If you can't justify shedding out £70+ for a authentic leather jacket, there are some great PU/imitation leather versions on the high street that are certainly worth checking out. Cute cropped jackets look great with a floral mini dress, and biker-style ones are perfect for casual jeans and plimsoll days.

4.) 1940's Style

Yes, yes it's all about the 80's, but the catwalk has also seen a lot of emphasis on 40's inspired styles. Think classic tailoring, skinny belts, conservative necklines, and maybe even the odd muff. Ooh err!

3.) Sculptured Shoulders

Your mum loved these 'back in the day' when Dynasty was the best show on TV and Cyndi Lauper was a style icon. This time around they are less puffy and don't resemble bra padding quite as much, now it's all about pointy, sculptured shoulders. Raid your mum's wardrobe and vintage shops, or just hit the high street for their take on the must have catwalk style.

Big shoulders=skinny waists. Simples!

4.) Studs

Shove them on everything! Shoes, bags, blazers, hats.... JEANS! Don't go overboard, though, studs on one item of clothing at a time please. Tasteful, not tacky!

5.) Brogues

AKA Golf Course Chic. Brogues have become increasingly popular in both men and women's fashion over the past year or two. Love them or hate them, but you can't deny they look hot with a cute mini dress for a preppy, vintage style. If your more of a glam girl, give heeled brogues a go a la Alexa Chung.

I have to give you all 10 facts about me and nominate 10 lovely blogs!

1. I have a huge phobia of bees and wasps and I go MAD if they come anywhere near me

2. I have loads of stomach problems, and have been told to cut out literally everything (lactose, gluten, wheat, eggs, alcohol!) This is actually the worst thing ever for me as I LOVE my food! lol

3. I am definitely addicted to the Twilight books (and films) and yes, I have too fallen in love with Edward Cullen!

4. Up until the age of about 16 I really really wanted to make it in the music industry! I tried playing drums in a band, then writing songs on the piano, then just singing in a 'soul band'. I gave up on it all because I got so nervous I puked every time I performed!

5. I really want to be fluent in French. I can speak a bit but not as much as I want.

6. I have the attention span of a goldfish and I get bored/distracted so easily

7. When I was younger I went through every identity crisis possible- I was a chav (even had a tooth gem!) a skater (yes, I tried to skateboard) a bit of a geek, AND I wanted dreadlocks so much I tried to dread my own hair. Epic fail.

8. I would love to be a TV presenter but I am a complete goof in front of a camera. Trust me, I've tried!

9. I need a PROPER JOURNALISM JOB. Can I have one please? People are clearly overseeing my fantastically witty and engaging writing (ehem) as I have applied for about 100 jobs and received nothing back! Hmph!

10. I still haven't unpacked some of my stuff from uni. There was a LOT of stuff!

Right, I know this is so late, but it's the only chance I've had to talk about my wonderful day and I have lots I still need to say. Bare with me please! :)

So Thursday was the Body Shop Bloggers event where I got to meet lots of wonderful people and learn more about one of my favourite shops! I won't go on too much about how the day panned out, 'cause I think every one's covered the gist of it already. Good blogging, girls!

The event was at the shwaaanky Sketch, off Regent Street. If you haven't been there then you have too, if just for the mental 'egg' toilets! Anyway, The brilliant people at Headstream met us at the door and swiftly thrust champagne into our hands. It didn't take much persuading to be honest, nor did the many many tiers of pastries and scones which were soon to follow. *Drools!*

Enough about the food, onto the products...

The concept of the event was to introduce us to a few new lines of products including the gorgeous 'Love etc' perfume which I love, 'Soft hands kind heart' hand cream (it supports ECPAT kids, buy it), and the Precious Pearlescents makeup line.

The fantastically charismatic Chase Aston was on hand to demonstrate two very different makeup looks using the new products. One was smokey bronze style modelled by lovely Laura! And the second was an 80's inspired 'blue eyes bold cheeks' look which was fascinating to watch and looked so fun. Chase was so funny, every time he said 'pucker down sweetie' I had a breakout of the giggles!

The products that stood out the most for me were the new shimmery eye shadows which reminded me of a compact version of MAC colour craft shadows. Very summery and a good choice of colours. My only qualm was that the launch is a little late for such a summery look, but nice shadows none the less. I also loved that they can be used together with their liquid liner (I swear by that stuff) to create a really effective smokey eye. Thanks again, Chase!

The generous Body Shop lot also gave us some must have skin care products especially suited to our skin types. My skin is quite dry and sensitive, so I received the Aloe Vera moisturiser, cleanser, wash and mask. I will be using them for a week to give a more detailed review, of course! This was all in our goody bags :D

I'm worried this is rambling a bit now, so I will round off by saying a big THANK YOU to Natalie for the invite, and to the Body Shop and Headstream team for putting on such a well organised and fantastic event. I had such a good day and loved meeting every one. I can't wait to see you all again for more girly gossiping and another catching up session! :D

F.A.B Most Hated

So this is a bit of a rant. Sorry about that!

Just to say, I know I called these things 'Most Hated', but it doesn't necessarily mean I hate these things, just that they really annoy me or are just.. well... crap.

Does any of that make sense??

Lets get started.

F.A.B Most Hated

1.) 'I picked these up today from the drugstore'

Oh really, did you? So you flew all the way to America to get your products? No? You went to a phaaaarmacy? Oh. I see now...

2.) Collection 2000 brown liquid eyeliner

I don't know why I ever considered this might be a good product, but I was at a loose end and needed a brown liner STAT and ended up with this poor excuse for one! The packaging is horrible, the applicator sheds (I don't even know how that's possible because its a sponge, but it does), the consistently is like water, and IT'S NOT EVEN BROWN! It's pretty much black. Rubbish.

3.) Zara sale

I came, I moaned, I left empty handed. Maybe it's just the Harlequin (Watford) store, but there was nothing in there but cardigans and vest tops. Tch!

4.) Maybelline Lash Stiletto mascara

I can't believe they are still hyping up this mascara. Surely anyone that has used it can notice that it smells like compost!? I didn't purposely sniff the wand, don't be thinking I'm some serial makeup sniffer, but you can't help but notice. I put it on my lashes and I could still smell it! Maybelline Collossal Volume smells the same! Anyway, so the thin and excessively too long wand does lengthen lashes (well done) but that's all it does, not curling, definitely not thickening and just generally creating horribly 'spidey' lashes. Booooo!

5.) Purposely ripped tights

'Is that a ladder in your tights or a stairway to heaven?' Good GOD women don't do it!

Get this girl some clear nail polish!

Hair horror

Ugggggggggggh! All this time I have alone is getting dangerous. I have been going through lots of old photos and it is depressing me so much!

Yes, it is probably because I'm sitting in bed feeling sorry for myself and stuffing my face with carrot cake- very Bridget Jones! But it is also because I am grieving for the loss of something that was taken from me about a year ago, something I am desperately trying to get back.

MY HAIR!

Oh sweet long curly locks, why was I so cruel and hasty to lop you all off? I know I was pretentious and wanted to be cool, but now I want you back!

This is me and my friend Ben, I think it was about 3 years ago now. I'm pulling a dodgy expression but I really like my hair here :( Not so sure about his though hehe sorry Ben (emo phase?!)

No, I haven't gone mad (not yet) but I have started getting really mopey because I feel so ugly and horrible at the moment! I used to have really long hair that every body complimented me on and I could do loads with. Then I got really into short hair and decided that I HAD to change my hair. I got annoyed with it pretty much always being the same length, so did something very dramatic (for me) and got the chop!

I loved it at the time, and I noticed lots of my friends going for similar cuts which was quite flattering! haha.

Anyway, now I'm in the growing out stages, and if anyone else has been there you'll know it's hard times! I hate hate HATE my hair at the moment and it's making me hate my whole appearance! It just sits like a crazy bush around my face and never does what I want it to. I miss covering up bad face days with my massive blanket of hair! This is what it looked like short...

Jenna and me (more dodgy expressions!) A drastic hair decision which I loved at first then got really annoyed with! This was early last year when the short crop was all the rage. Very trendy but impossible to maintain.

Very 80's!

Annnd this is what it looks like now:

I have naturally wavy hair, so I can either straighten it or curl it, however during the 'growing stages' I can only have it curly, or else it looks like a mullet. Gutted :(

Is any one else in the same situation as me? And what hairstyles or tips can anyone recommend me? I am open to all suggestions, even the possibility of hair extensions!! Thanks xx

This little piggy went to Prague...

Hey girls,

First of all I wanted to say I'm sorry for the lack of posts recently. Those of you who follow me on Twitter will know that my wonderful boyfriend whisked me off to Prague on Thursday for my (actual) birthday weekend! We had an amazing time together as we only see each other every couple of weeks :( we did lots of sightseeing and generally living it up in our stunning five star hotel with room service, champagne, the lot! We had fun pretending to be famous and rich haha.

Anyway... during my time there I managed to somehow contract swine flu. Yes, my immune system is so poor, if someone coughs in a hundred meter radius to me I will become ill.

So I have been bed bound and in isolation since Sunday. What a lovely way to end the trip (boo hooooo). I'm taking care of myself well though so hopefully I'll be on the road to recovery soon and I can bring myself to write some half decent posts again.

I hope everyone is well and I'll be back soon. Meanwhile here are a few pics from my weekend xxx

Hey ladies,

This is just a quick one to show you what I decided on for my meal and night out with the ladies...

I opted for the Urban Outfitters playsuit- successfully made smaller all over by my mum- thanks maman xxx

I HATE this picture, but it's all I had to show the outfit

Let me tell you, I love this playsuit but oh my god when I needed the toilet it was SO annoying. I had to take to unbutton the entire thing, untie the halter top and take off the belt. Not good for a night of cocktails, no no!

Anyway, on to makeup. Because of the peacock design on the dress, I opted for blue and green peacock inspired eye makeup! I had to do two attempts at this because the first was so over the top and I looked a bit drag queen-esque! In the end, thanks to some dazzle dust it all looked nice and subtle but effective.

Here are some more photos from the night, and most importantly the ice bar! Anyone who hasn't been you should definitely check it out, it's on Heddon street in Piccadilly Circus. We LOVED it and all had a great night out :)

Cheeeese yes, I know. But there are a lot of things I am loving and hating at the moment!

OH GREAT my camera just broke as I was preparing for this post noooo :'( Will have to make do with ones I can find from other sources. Gutted. This is the second time it has happened this year. Stay away from samsung cameras folks!

Top Rated

1.) MAC glaze lipstick in hue:

I've been looking for the perfect every day lipstick since I realised I should stop wearing so much red, it was staining my lips and didn't suit my complexion too brilliantly! What an amateur!

Anyway, I stumbled into the mac shop the other day with my very bored boyfriend. Can I just say I hate that shop. The lighting makes you feel like you have to spend all of your money in there to make yourself look less horrible, and the staff are so condesending- they think we are all so dumb! (Sorry to generalise, maybe they're just like this with me!)

Back to the lipstick... It is really soft and moisturizing, and it gives great coverage even though its just a glaze. Hue is perfect for every day wear and goes gorgeous with a nice smokey eye! It's quite similar to Gosh darling thought I thought, so if you want to save a few pounds go for Gosh!

2.) Garnier Body Tonic Sugar Scrub:

I was really excited to try this when I got it because I have quite dry skin, particularly on my arms and legs, and I really wanted something to sort it out and that wouldn't be too abraisive. Well I found it with this little gem! It contains real sugar particles (who'd have guessed?!) and lots of appealing smelling citrus fruit which is sooo refreshing for those, like me, who struggle to get up in the morning!

I use this about 3 times a week with a shower puff! haha is that even a word?! You know what I mean, those puffy things you use in the shower. Although, this method isn't very economical. I'm on to the second bottle already and it's only been 3 weeks :( At around £3 a bottle though I can deal with that!

3.) Clinique anti blemish gel

I really wanted the Garnier on the spot roll on to work for me. I gave it so many chances. I even put up with a big spot on my nose for three days waiting for it to work, but alas, no luck. I ended up resorting my old trusty Clinique. This stuff really is the best for spots. I put it on just before I went to bed and in the morning I woke zit free- hurrah! I don't know why it says its for blemishes, because it never works for those on me! Still, this is a must have in everyone's skin care routine as it has never let you down. It is quite pricey, around the £12 mark, but it lasts for aaages as it is a nice thick gel.

4.) Urban outfitters sale

I love Urban Outfitters it's one of my all time favourite shops and the sale at the moment is brilliant! If anyone hasn't checked it out yet I suggest you go soon as things are selling like hot cakes (naturally)! I managed to back myself this beauty for £20 reduced from £65! I stupidly bought it in medium instead of small though, so I've got my mum working her magic trying to make it smaller in time for me to wear it tomorrow! *Drools*

This Friday is my 21st birthday party yeey.

I am such a kid!

I am celebrating across lots of days doing different things, but this Friday the girls and I are going into central London to the ice bar! Yes, a bar made completely of ice. Mental! We're going for a meal first then drinks and dancing afterwards.

So why am I telling you this I hear you ask?

Well obviously I'm stressing about what to wear! I haven't bought a new dress in aaaages, and I can't really afford to go and get a new one.

What should I dooooo? I think I'll get a few outfits together and you can help me chose (again) oui? non?

A bit of a medley

I've rolled quite a lot of things into one with this post, but it kind of works. I think :)

Recent purchases

I really shouldn't have done this due to a) My addiction to late night Internet shopping binges b) ongoing lack of funds BUT I went on Asos (again).

I managed to get my basket down from about 7 items to 3. That was a big enough achievement for me as it is, normally I'd just close my eyes and click confirm!*

So I ended up with some rather eye catching acid wash jeggins, which you may say 'er bit late aren't we', to which I would respond 'er no I was just waiting 'til they were going out of fashion because I am too cool to wear them at the same time as everyone else!'

Ehem. In addition to my amazingly cool and not-at all-garish-jeggins, I bought two pretty standard tops which I made damn sure were long enough to cover my rather ample sized boootaaay. And because I hate when people make the mistake of wearing leggings as trousers. TOO MUCH ASS ON SHOW! Exhibit a): The jeggins I purchased!

If I wore this outfit I would probably get done for indecent exposure!

Oh yes another recent purchase I am loving is this...

Rimmel 60 seconds nail polish in 405 Rose Libertine. I am a big fan of Rimmel actually, always have been. I also am a big fan of not spending over £7 for a nail varnish (especially when my nails look as crappy as they do in that picture!)

Anyway so the coverage is good, not amazing. I had to put about two coats on to get them thick enough, but that's pretty standard. It doesn't dry in 60 seconds though- what a load of BS! But, the colour is gorgeous, pretty similar to Barry M's Pink Flamingo, yes, no? Well, this has become one of my favourites now, and at around £2.50(?) I'm sure I will be purchasing it again soon!

On to my next subject! Outfit of the night!

As you may/may not know, my social life is not exactly heaving at the moment due to finishing uni, having no dollar, and no job. Oh, and not to mention only seeing my boyfriend every two weeks as he lives in the 'West country. Oooh aaarr!'

So, when I go to the pub, I see it as an opportunity to dress up a little- despite the fact that this is Enfield, and people think it is acceptable to wear joggers in restaurants *shudders*.

I tried to be inventive with the camera angles. Can you tell? lol. I also vowed never to do the 'tacky mirror shot' but I failed. I had no other option!!

I'm all for a bit of crazy couture... but this Lady Gaga?

Really? I think it may be a tad too far!

This is what she turned up to a German TV interview in recently. In case you can't work it out, those ghastly looking green things are hundreds of little Kermit the frog dolls! Gaga's creation was one by legendary French designer Jean Charles de Castelbajac, who is the brain child behind these other outlandish pieces:

All these are straight off the catwalk for Autumn/Winter 2009, with the last picture being Gaga's chosen piece!

Castelbajac spoke of his Kermit inspired designs in Dazed and Confused, saying: "It’s just a bit of a joke about how English people calls the French for frogs. I made a frog massacre!"

Yes they are remarkably similar. But, I need help choosing because I only want to keep one. The other is a little something for a friend of mine- I know she doesn't follow my blog so I think I'm safe!

So which one should I keep and which should I give away? I want them both!!

Yes you asked for it, you get it. Even if it did take about 2 months, I have done another outfit post. Today I had the day off from my little spell of volunteering, and did a tiny bit of shopping in town. I must stress, I am still broke, but I knew if I didn't shop soon I would end up spending £200 on Asos in one of my midnight danger sprees!

So in 'Enfield taaaaan' (which can I point out is pure crap for shopping and generally everything) I had a browse and came out with these babies! (Please excuse lack of polish!)

They're by Steve Madden, and I managed to get them for a quite reasonable £35 in TK Max! O god am I starting to like that place? Nooo I'm just broke and these are the things poor people like myself must do right now! I am normally quite good with money, but I actually couldn't resist these. Here's what I wore once I'd bought them...

The day went really fast but there was such a lovely ceremony which I got to share with my amazing friends and family, and a night of partying after, which was good :)

Obviously my gown will be about half the size of this as I am such a tiny bean :( Also, we don't get to try them on until the day, so it is a bit scary wondering what they will look look and what to wear under them!

I have been pondering over what to wear for quite a few weeks now, and have finally settled on my outfit. I didn't want to outshine the gown, as that should be the main focus, so I went for a simple white blouse which I found at Tk Max for a bargain price of £7 (limited funds you see!) and a really nice grey thin striped skirt which is kind of a cross between a pencil and a tulip skirt. It has nice detailing and isn't too showy, or too short! That was from Miss Selfrige and was around £30.

The best bit is the shoes. I love love love these Shelly's shoes. I bought them a while back but never really wear them as they are a bit formal and the heel isn't really high enough for nights out. HOPEFULLY I won't be falling over on stage in these. As I said, I am incredibly nervous as everyone is going to be looking and I am a total klutz!

But I wanted to wait to get some of the big day, instead of taking a crappy mirror one. I really hope it will be a good day, and I won't look too plain or boring!

1. I worked as an extra last year for a bit of cash over the summer. I was in a terribly chavy dance video that I have only ever seen once and that was on channel U! I also did a few TV programmes but the pay was rubbish rendering it all pretty pointless!

2. I am afraid of multi story car parks and I have never tried parking in one because I'm a very nervous driver!

3. 'My name is Nicola and I am a chocoholic'. My boyfriend hides the chocolate when I come round because he knows if I start I will eat it all! :(

4. I am a little bit obsessed with Paris, well, France in general. I love the language, I love the style and I love the food. I may move there eventually!

5. I'm not really that career driven. I want money obviously! But all I look forward to is having a big crazy family and enjoying life instead of putting work first.

6. When I was younger I wanted to be a zoo keeper, but I hate the smell of animals and I'm pretty sure I'm alergic to fur...

7. I have a huuuuuuuge phobia of bees and wasps. I always have done and always will do, no matter how many times people say "Stay still, they don't want to hurt you" please don't bother it makes no difference!

8. I can't wait to travel the world. I want to see and experience EVERYTHING. I want to join tribes and do all kinds of things :D I just need money first hmmm.

9. I am a little obsessed with weddings. I really want to get married (mainly for the ceremony) and I want it to be BIG. We're talking castles, lots of guests, huge flowers, the LOT. I'm only 2o though so I will just have to wait for now!

10. I cry at everything. I am literally the softest person ever. I think I get it from my dad he once cried at an episode of the Bill and he has never lived that down. Although I cried at Holby City the other day but it was really sad! lol

Snog, Marry, Avoid?!

Yes, I jumped on the bandwagon, but I could not miss out the opportunity to 'drag it up'. I was inspired by Holly and Hele's fantastic transformations, so I decided to do my own! Even though the Snog, Marry Avoid contest has ended, me and my friend Emma still thought it would be a luagh. Here's what happened!

INTRODUCING: Chardonnay and ST Tropez!

Chardonnay describes herself as "Sexy, gawjus and really smart actually".

This is her best friend ST Tropez - she says '"I'm funnay, sexay and very bubbly".

The girls love nothing better than getting ready for 6 hours, downing a bottle of £5.99 Vodka and posing infront of the mirror. Don't they look sexayyy?

BAAAAAAAAAYBES! What do you think? Do you think we look 'sxc'?! Can I just point out we don't actually look this bad normally and it took us about 2 hours to put on that much makeup! Was great fun though, I think everybody should let out their 'Chardonnays' :)

Introducing product testers and favourites so far

I have been trying out most of the Garnier goodies for just two days now and I have already noticed a few little gems which I know I will be buying again.

Although I am very impressed with the Pure Active range and I can tell it will be great for spots and imperfections, I have quite sensitive and dry skin so a lot of these aren't really for me :( However, they have gone to a good home.

My two brothers snapped the spot products up right away! I was quite surprised at this as they aren't the most image conscious of men, but they could definitely do with a good scrub every now and then!

This is my eldest brother, Andrew, he's 23. As you can see he is clearly both shocked and impressed with his new Garnier products!! Here he is with the face wash and blackhead scrub which he describes as 'Very nice. Smells a bit like cucumber and the beads feel gooood' Great stuff, Andrew.

And here is Tim, he's 16. He didn't want me to capture his face because he was scared he might break the camera with his ugly mug. How kind of him! Of course, I am just kidding, he is actually a stud muffin. His favourites are also the blackhead scrub, and the brilliant new spot on roll on stick for spots and blemishes. Tim assured me that he 'Didn't really need them but he wanted to try them anyway'. Ok, Tim!

So thumbs up all round for the new range. They are appealing to both sexes, have a refreshing scent and are so far quite effective for clearing up problem skin! Obviously I will be keeping a close eye on my little product testers and monitoring their skin as the days go on. Poor guys!

As for me, the products that stand out at the moment are are below.

From left to right

Ambre Solaire spray on self tan: Perfect for light, natural looking and even tans. I always make sure I have some of this over the winter to brighten my pastey skin!

Clean Sensitive moisture cleansing water: For quick light feeling face washes whenever skin needs a good pick me up.

Ambre Solaire Clear Protect sun spray SPF 15: So easy to apply, doesn't feel sticky at all, and doesn't smell as strong as usual sun creams. Much less hassle all round.

Bodytonic sugar scrub: Love the yellow packaging. A bright, summery, zesty smelling scrub. Perfect for soft, smooth skin on holiday.

Fructis beach look surf hair spray: Not too sticky, perfect accompaniment to Remington Spin Curls for beachy waves and simple tousled looks.

Clean Sensitive anti-tightness wipes: Ideal for after a long day when you just can't face the usual cleanse, tone and moisturise. Makeup comes off easily and skin feels smooth and supple afterwards.

NEW Pure Active spot fighting 24 hour moisturiser: A very rich and intense moisturiser which really does seem to work for hours on end. You only need a tiny amount and the skin is immediately hydrated. I haven't noticed much on the spot clearing front as my skin is strangely blemish free at the moment. But just as a moisturiser this will not disappoint.

Garnier Goodies

Ok so I think everyone has pretty much covered the Garnier bloggers event by now (sorry I'm a bit behind) but I still wanted to say a few things.

Firstly, I had such a good evening meeting everyone and learning lots about a brand I admittedly didn't know that much about. I was so nervous about going as I had been in Wimbledon all day and hadn't had the chance to change or do my makeup I was in such a nightmare rush! So I rolled up all trampy and there was everybody looking GORGEOUS. Honestly, I've never seen so many pretty people all in one room it was very intimidating but everyone was lovely and I eventually relaxed and stopped stressing!

The actual event was all about the launch of the new Garnier Pure Active range, which is basically a stronger skin care range to help prevent and treat spots and troubled skin. There are five new products including a really great little roll on spot stick, a scrub, toner, wash and moisturiser, all containing Salicylic acid to target spots.

We were given a HUGE bag of products to try out, and I have already established a few clear favourites which I will be reviewing further in my next post.

I want to say a massive thank you to all the organisers of the event for inviting us and making us feel welcome, putting on a huuuge spread of food, and of course for all the goodies! And to the girls, I really enjoyed meeting you, you made it such good fun, thank you! xxx

I am so happy to be home! I loved uni but being in a nice house surrounded by my family feels so much better.

Today me my mum and grandma went out to dinner to celebrate me finishing uni and coming home.

Naturally I jumped at the chance to get all girly and make a fuss, turning up at my grandma's with a huge makeup bag and hair products!

Since my holiday (yes, I will shut up about it soon, promise!) My skin has been really smooth and the blemishes have gone down. I've got used to wearing very little makeup at all now. As for outfits, I HATE asking people to take pictures of me, it is very embarrassing. Also, I try to refrain from taking mirror pictures as I think they look a bit tacky. However, I have managed to salvage one from my holiday. It's not my favourite, but it'll do.

I have just come across a rather exciting piece of news I had to share with you all.

Brace yourselves label lovers....

According to WWD, Jimmy Choo will be coming to H&M at the end of this year making their sexy, stylish designs available at high street prices.

H&M have seen many collaborations in the past, with well known designers including Roberto Cavalli, Matthew Williamson and Stella McCartney.

Now, much to my delight, there will soon be a range of shoes, handbags, accessories and clothing available for men and women, in selected H&M stores from November 14.

I don't know about you but I am very excited about this one, and as soon as I know more on this I will let you all know.

For the mean time here's a sneaky peak of two designs. Loving the black strappies on the left :)

I have just had my results back and I am happy with my 'high 2:1'. I am so glad that all the hard work has finally paid off.

Good Luck for anyone else who may be getting their results soon, or who is still doing work and exams. It is well worth all the stress and drama in the end :) xx

Homeward Bound!

I've just returned from my lovely holiday in Turkey. It was a group holiday with 14 of us heading off to Marmaris to celebrate all finishing our degrees and spending time together before we went our separate ways. I realise how 'Benidorm' this may sound (and at times it really was)... but please, for give me, I am a poor student.

Anyway, we all had a great time sunning ourselves in the gorgeous 40 degree heat! It was too hot to get a good tan but I tried my best nevertheless!

Holiday Highs:

*Jumping off the highest point of a boat into the sea even though I'm scared of heights!

*Finally getting a REAL tan, and not burning my nose like I do every year!

*Piz Buin aftersun cream. I was a bit stupid and didn't bring any after sun with me, 'Cocoa butter will do'. No. It didn't. Thankfully my dear chum Martin had splashed out on a lot of Piz Buin products beforehand, so I nabbed some of the cooling spray to soothe my poor burnt tummy!

*No makeup days and nights. I am a big fan of the natural look, I hate makeup that looks too 'cakey'. Thankfully, the sun really evened out my skin tone and I was able to just go out with a bit of bronzer and concealer on the cheeks, and mascara on the eyes. Simples!

*Souvenir shopping! Of course I have to still go shopping even when on holiday. It was a bit difficult though as there were so many of us (and more than half were men) so I didn't get much makeup shopping time. I did, however, end up with a gorgeous multi coloured pashmina, the new Nina Rici perfume which is a sweet but light scent- very different to my usual Dior Addict and Coco Mademoiselle and some cute little summery bracelets. I bought some little things for the family too, but I haven't seem them yet so they have to wait for those :)

Holiday Lows:

* Bad IBS. I have a really weak stomach and almost everything I eat/drink makes me feel sick. The heat and the long hours without eating made me much worse, which meant I couldn't drink as much as my friends who got to indulge on lots of cocktails and fishbowls while I was on water!

*SUNBURN Owwwwwwwwwwwwww. I stupidly forgot to reapply my cream after being in the pool one day and really burnt my stomach and chest. It has gone quite a lot now but I am still patchy and lets just say no crop tops for me!

*Food poisoning. Yes, as a parting gift from our supposed 4* hotel, I have been poisoned! It wasn't a very pleasant journey home feeling like I was literally DYING. But I am back home in bed resting and it just means I have plenty of time for blogging and catching up with my lovely followers!

3 new and completely random things I love this week

Yes, I could have thought of a more catchy and generally better name for this blog title. But, since finishing uni I have become officially brain dead. Or at least it feels that way.

So, due to my lack of inspiration right now, I have decided to talk about my latest and favourit(ist?) purchases of late!

Ok so in no particular order (naturally)

1.) Remington Spin Curls hair dryer. I know I can't stop raving about it but it is brilliant and I haven't had to use any other curlers/straighteners or anything since! Buuuuy one! Click on the link and it will take you to my review and some pics...

2)Prestige Glam Tan bronzer. I normally stick to blushers as a rule, after a rather unpleasant experience with some cheapo bronzing balls a few years back. Balls everywhere, ruined makeup bag, orange streaky face. Total disaster. Anyway, I faced my fears and invested in a new one, as I'm sick of looking pale and I don't like fake tanning my face. (Yes, there are a lot of things I don't like!) I had seen a few good reviews of this bronzer, and after trying my friends one on a night out, I decided I had to have it.

It is a good size, and is very well pigmented so you don't need too much on the brush. It gives a really nice natural looking golden glow, great for day time and because of the little highlighting bits (very technical!) it gives a good shimmer, which works nicely for evening looks too.

It was on offer at Boots the other day- I think it was about £3 off so around £6

3.) Nivea Visage Tinted Moisturiser. During the summer there's nothing worse than makeup sliding all over your face in the heat and/or going all cakey. So thank heavens to Betsy I found this little gem! I have tried the Body Shop's tinted moisturiser and although it is very moisturising, the colour is too orange for my pale complexion and it doesn't last very long either. So, the Nivea tinted moisturiser is much lighter but has a better staying power on the face, even in the really hot weather we've been having! And you can pick it up for just £4 in Boots at the moment. C'est superb!

Spin Curls

I know a few people have posted about the new Remington Spin Curls hairdryer, but my wonderful boyfriend decided to be very kind and surprise me with one out the blue! :D

I have been dithering over buying one for a few weeks now, but always thought my hair was too short and I am supposed to be saving.

However, I used it this morning and I LOVE IT! I could not contain my excitement when I dangled my hair inside the bizarre looking piece of technology, and watched my hair transform into perfect curls instantly.

A very helpful diagram I designed just for you!

I was a little scared at first as it looks like some sort of torture device, and sounds like one too! Still, I followed the instructions, and, in a matter of minutes, I could really see the results. My hair is quite short (and horrible- it's in the growing stages. Ugh!) but it still curled it and dried it perfectly. My whole head of extremely thick hair took about 20 minutes.

I was in shock! Normally I would have to blow dry my hair first, then style it either straight or curly, and it takes me ages!

It costs £39 from Boots, and comes with a 2 year guarantee- which is great for me as my hairdryers have a habit of exploding . I think it is the most genius and useful piece of technology I possess and I don't think I will need my curlers or straighteners again! (Not for a while anyway!)

Style Icons

I wanted to share with you some of my favourite style icons, people that inspire me, and just photos that I love.

Ever since I watched Factory Girl, I have been obsessed with the late Edie Sedgwick. Her fashion sense reflected her. It was unpredictable and crazy and sassy. She looks great in her signature leotards, or shift dresses, with the famous short hair cut and dramatic dark eye make-up .

Next up has to be Audrey Hepburn. Who doesn't love her classically elegant style? Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my all time favourite films, I adore the way always looked pristine, even if just popping out the house for a bit to eat. I wish I could be so glamorous!

Francoise Hardy's sexy 60s boho fashion was really unique. She always looked effortlessly chic, even in just a simple T-shirt and trousers.

Leaving the 60s behind now (although mentally I'm still stuck there!) and I am still loving Agyness Deyn's 'boyish can be sexy too' style. She pulls off punky and masculine styles, throwing the most random things together and still manages to look gorgeous. I loved her hair so much last year that I chopped off my long locks for a short 'do. Not quite as short as Aggy's but very close! Love this photo!

Oh Alexa Chung... you were wasted on T4! I'm glad somebody saw the light and got her back into modelling. Half of the reason I used to watch the programme was because I loved her style. It started off quite 'Topshop' but now she has invented her own style with her fitted dresses, baggy cardigans, black tights and patent high heels. And not forgetting the messy bob and thick black eyeliner.

New e.l.f products. Warning, contains a lot of complaints!

I was so excited when my six new e.l.f products arrived for me to try out yesterday. I wanted to like them so much. At £11 for two nail polishes, two eye shadows, an eye liner and a lip balm, and free delivery, I couldn't believe my luck!

I was impressed with the cheap price (I'm a bit of a bargain hunter/cheapskate!) and the speedy three day delivery. However, everything I got let me down in some way.

The nail polishes I ordered were Coral and Plum. The coral had leaked in the post, and instead of resembling the colour swatch on the website, it comes out really pearlecent and not at all coral. And the plum looks more like a brown, but I do quite like the colour. However, I put them on yesterday, and by today they had chipped so much I had to take it all of completely. Very sad story!

As for the mineral eye shadows, these were more impressive, but still nothing to shout about. I received Temptress and Royal. Although they are not very pigmented, the purple one was quite pretty, and made a nice smokey eye for a night time look. Temptress, however, looked almost beige on the website, but in the pot it is like a pink blush, and on my eyes it made me look ill! I managed to tone it down with another gold colour I had, but on its own it is not a good look at all, unless you're looking for sympathy or a day off work!

My interesting method of showing the nail polish colour (thumbs up for colour, down for quality!), eye shadows (first temptress, second royal), eye liner, and an overly excited facial expression!

I also ordered their waterproof eyeliner pen in Coffee, because my holiday is in two weeks and I needed something to stop me looking like a complete mong when I'm around the pool! I was surprised there wasn't any form or click to refill function, or something to produce more product. It is literally a felt tip pen for eyes. It is relatively easy to apply and gives a nice wide eye effect to line eyes but not as bold as a black kohl or liquid liner. This product is certainly not waterproof as advertised.

I tested it by splashing water over my face (not a pleasant task, but that's dedication for my readers!) and naturally, it didn't pass the rigorous test! So, if you're looking for a very cheap quick fix liquid liner, this product is fine, just don't expect it to last for very long!

Finally, to round of my mass moan (sorry folks!) there is the Candy Shop lip gloss tin. I opted for cherry, as I love cherry flavours/smells. What a don't love is a horrible coffee smell that has no resemblance to cherries, and tastes as bad as it smells. OH DEAR. The colour is very bright and looks quite nice on the lips. It also lasts for quite a while. Still, the horrible smell ruins it for me and again I was disappointed.

Has anyone else had similar problems with e.l.f products, or am I just missing the mark completely? What do you think of their products?

MAKEOVERMYMATE IS CHANGING

It was focused mainly on makeovers, whereas now it is more about my life, and my love for all things fashion and beauty.

The ball!

So anyone who actually follows my blogs... I hope there are at least a few of you(!) I thought I would put up a few pics of my summer ball. The night was a success, we were celebrating for 12 hours, and I didn't get to bed until half 7. It was mad but very fun and thankfully my dress went down well!

I was worried about being too overdressed but there were plenty of ball gowns so it was lovely :)

Me and my lovely boyfriend- who decided to wear a tie which clashed with my dress! lol

We had to take about 100 photos of us to get a good one. Still couldn't manage obviously!

My Brummy babs and the Mr again :) Fond memories but it's all over now *sobbs*

As you may/may not know, last week was the end of term for us third years. Every year we celebrate it with a summer ball, but this year as it is the last one, I really wanted to make an effort.

SO.. The dress code is smart. Pretty vague really, but I presumed this meant men in tuxes and women in gowns. However, after discovering what my friends and colleagues are going to wear, I fear I'm going to be pretty over dressed.

I designed my dress myself about five months ago (yes this is very eager, but I'm always designing things and I knew what I wanted a while back!) and my wonderful, talented mother made it- with help from me of course!

The dress is floor length, regal red satin ( I think?) with a deep V neck on the front and on the back. I wouldn't normally go for this sort of thing, but I was inspired by the dress Keira knightley wears in the Coco Madmoiselle advert. There is also a chiffon bow at the back, to give detail and hide my big bum! I've got some pictures but they're taken at my horrible student house so please excuse the quality and the ugly fire door!

Most other people are wearing knee length dresses, lots of puffball and strapless going around. What do you think, do you like it? Will I stick out like a sore thumb?

Top Tips #1

Every week from now on I will be writing about some useful tips I have picked up from various makeover shows, websites, books, and even my own, slightly biased advice!

It’s Summer now, so it’s important to know what the key looks are, and what to avoid when updating your wardrobe. A few of them include...

Jackets

Layers are sticking with us from winter, and its all about over sized blazers and cropped jackets. Blazers are a great way of smartening up a simple outfit like jeans and a vest, or a transforming a day dress into a more evening style. Cropped jackets are effective in accentuating small waists and for layering up dresses. Crops work with most dresses, skirts and trousers, but never with pencil skirts!

Harem Trousers

Finally we can stop squeezing ourselves into our drainpipes and focus our attentions onto something new! Relaxed, fun, casual and stylish; harem pants may seem like an odd choice at first, but once you overcome the initial shock of the saggy crotch, I guarantee you will not find anything else as comfy. Try pairing them with wedges and a blouse for a funky evening look, or flats and a simple T-shirt for the day.

Zara have lots of these in at the moment in a variety of colours from standard black to bright yellow, and they are just £9.99, a total bargain.

Wedges

Wedge heels are huge this season, dominating sandals, courts, platforms and even trainers. They simply cannot be avoided right now. Not only do they make your legs look longer, they are much more comfy than stilettos. Wedges work brilliantly with jeans or with high wasted skirts (the latter is particularly best for pear shaped figures). Faith currently have some gorgeous pairs in stock right now and if you get there fast they are offering buy one get one half price in some stores!

Denim

Denim has always been huge both on the catwalk and on the high street, and this season is no different. Denim jackets have been making their return recently, since B*Witched cruelly banished them back in the 90's with their horrendous denim overloads!

This time it is the lighter the better, with the introduction of 80's acid-wash denim for a vintage feel. Why not add two key elements together and go for a cropped, light denim jacket? They go perfectly over light floral dresses. Alternatively, light denim flared jeans are a really big look this summer too. Just try to avoid wearing more than one piece of denim at a time, or you will risk looking like a 90's pop star. Not cool!

My Trafford Centre trip wasn't totally unsuccessful, I did manage to buy this gorgeous pair of wedges from H&M, at an extremely reasonable £25 :D They are quite different but I really love them. I'm considering replacing the laces with some ribbon though, to make them a bit more subtle.

I plan to wear them with harem trousers or Jeans and a nice summery blouse. I've tried them on with dresses and they work quite well too. The only thing stopping them from being perfect, is the fact the wedge is canvas and cream, so I fear they will be getting very dirty quickly. I hope not!

So... I went to the Trafford Centre yesterday, hoping to buy a few things for my holiday to Turkey in about a month.

It was my first time there, as if I go to Manchester I normally head for the vintage shops and the city centre. Still, it was very nice and everything was going just fine... UNTIL:

Overly confident orange women hanging around Selfridges: "Hello madam, can I interest you in a free Fake Bake spray tan today"

Me: "Erm, well, um... well, I am pretty pale...."

Five minutes later I am removing my makeup in the middle of the Trafford centre with a BABYWIPE (I should've got out there and then), and stripping in a tiny inflatable booth in front of this random woman.

Why can't I say no?

This was my first ever spray tan experience. I used to go on sunbeds a little but then I watched a documentary about skin cancer and I never went back. I think I am destined to be pale.

I ended up having to spend the rest of my shopping trip BRIGHT red (my skin is very sensitive and it didn't react well to the spray) with brown streaks over my chest and arms. Not my finest hour that's for sure.

Anyway, after some scrubbing I have managed to get the tan more even and I think I might be able to leave the house now without people staring at me! Oh the humiliation! I am contemplating putting pics up but after I put all my makeup on it probably won't be noticeable!

The moral of this post is SAY NO to spray tans! Embrace your natural colour!

Hurrrahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I've just finished my degree. Three years of hard work will hopefully pay off, will have to wait and see in a few months! Anyway, this means I can start blogging again as I pretty much have nothing to do with my time now, yey! (Is this yey?!)

I've been spending a lot more time on my make-up recently, trying to establish a few different looks, instead of always wearing browns and neutral shades. Anyway, here's two from the past few days:

Look 1

Please excuse my extremely dodgy expression, I haven't yet found the right pose that doesn't make me look either pissed off, or over excited!

Anyway, this was a simple look because I was only going shopping. I had some cute vintage earrings shaped like peacocks (I think!) and I wanted to match my makeup to the metallic blue and pink colours on them.

On my face I just used Maxfactor's colour adapt foundation (feels like silk and gives the most perfect light coverage), Bodyshop blush effect cheek colour, YSL Touche Eclait radiant touch, Victoria Jackson eyeshadow pallet, BarryM dazzle dust (I don't know the name but it was light blue!) Rimmel eyeliner pencil in 'azure shimmer', two coats of Number7 extreme length mascara, and Rimmel volume booster lipstick in 'foxy'.

Look 2

This is very similar (I didn't have time to try new things, had to hand my bleedin' dissertation in!) Instead of the blue colours I used POP's eye cake in 'violet eyes'. mixed with Bodyshop shimmer cubes on the brow bone.

Mineral makeup

My Lily Lolo mineral foundation arrived this morning, a little late after posting it to the wrong address, then having a small feud with Mr. Postman. Still, better late than never!

For the benefit of any mineral makeup novices (like myself), they are different to liquid foundations because they contain naturally occurring minerals Titanium and Zinc Oxide, which are lighter on the pores, and have a sun protection factor of 15. The foundation comes as a powder that you apply to your face with a brush using circular motions, or 'buffing', until the desired amount is applied.

I was advised to try out mineral makeup by a friend, when I told her my skin was often blotchy and quite red. My gorgeous Lily Lolo pot has not let me down so far. I tried it this morning, and although the application was quite tricky to master without a proper buffing brush, the end result was perfect. My blemishes had gone, my whole face felt soft and smooth, and most importantly, I didn't look like I was wearing too much makeup. I bought it in 'Blondie', which is quite pale but can be livened up with a light bronzer, like the Body Shop's all over cheek shimmer.

Here's a picture of the end result:

I used the Lily Lolo foundation all over, followed by Body Shop's all over cheek shimmer, and YSL Touche Eclat under my eyes. For my eyes I used a little L'Oreal colour appeal trio, brown eye brow pencil and eye liner. I finished with Rimmel's lip plumping lipstick in 'Foxy'. I wanted a subtle look as I was only going to the newsroom to do work!

Virtual Makeover

Just to prove that my blog offers the best advice and reviews for makeover ideas, (modest, me? No!) I thought it would be fun to look into other makeover sites on offer on the big wide web.

After searching 'virtual makeovers' on Google, I was shocked to see how many hundreds of these sites they are, but they are all almost exactly the same!

So I tried the first one that caught my eye, which was iVillage The site claimed it could show me my 'new look' within five minutes. However, I wasn't even allowed to upload a photo of myself unless I was a member, which would've taken me about 10 minutes. Instead of giving in and signing up to something I really didn't want to start spamming me with junk mail, I chose to just pick one of the existing models to makeover.

This is a pretty pointless tool, as if you want to give yourself a makeover, you generally have to start with your own face, surely?! Still, I gave it a go just for a laugh.

The site let me chose all kinds of details, from the colour of my eyes, to the shade and shape of my lipliner. It's pretty fun to play about with, but it isn't really a makeover, nor does it help you find what looks work best for you.

Anyway, after about 15 iminutes of fiddling about with this strange woman who bared no resemblence to me at all, my makeover was complete! Of course, it wouldn't let me save the picture as I wasn't a member, but here's a sneaky print screen of it.

So I've not really learned anything from my magical virtual makeover, except the fact that doing anything on line requires you to sign your life (or just your inbox) away to random independent websites.

Not for me, thank you!

Focus on Style: Allows you to try different outfits and celebrity looks

Mary Kay: A more professional looking website, but some seriously dodgy looking faces to choose from

Taaz: The nicest looking, and most realistic, but signing up to be a member is unnecessary hassle.

Tried and Tested

Here are a few other things I picked up on my quick shop, and my verdict on them so far...

1.) Sally Hansen nail growth activator:

At £7 a bottle it is quite pricey compared to Boots' own brand, and doesn't look or feel like it's going to be any good at first. However, after applying the magical blue liquid to my nails twice a day for two days I am already noticing a difference. My nails are much stronger and they seem healthier already. On the packaging it says I will notice the difference in four days, so I hope it will continue to help me on my mission to finally grow some nails! 4.5/5

2.) Rimmel lip plumping lipstick in 'Foxy':

This product claims to plump up lips and give a bigger, fuller pout. I love the colour, it's quite bright pink so it stands out but doesn't make me look like a Barbie doll. As for plumping, I haven't noticed any change in the size of my lips. I'm not sure what I expected really! It tingles quite a bit once it has been applied, which made me think it could have worked, but alas, it doesn't. The lipstick is on special offer at Boots at around £5, pretty reasonable for a lipstick I think! 3/5

3.) L'Oreal Colour Appeal trio pro for brown eyes:

I never really wear much eyeshadow normally, but now I have my trusty Body Shop brushes, I decided it was time to invest in some. I was initially disappointed when I opened up the compact to see three of the tiniest eyeshadow pallets I'd ever encounter. The compact itself is quite big, but there is simply not enough for your money, and the application brushes are curved in a way which is supposed to make it easy to apply, but instead makes it uncomfortable and pointless.

All in all the colours are good, this compact includes a bronze, a gold, and a lighter gold, and on the back there are instructions on how best to use the different colours, which is a nice touch. I found that in order to get an effective look, you need to apply quite a lot, which is a pain as there isn't much to go round. I don't expect this make-up to last me long! 3/5

Jean shop

I had intended to have a mammoth 'jean shop' yesterday, but due to having no food in the house, and faced with the prospect of living off cuppa soups and potato croquet's for five days, I decided it was time to food shop, not clothes shop.

Sadly this means I don't have much to show, but I'll manage with what I have, until next time!

I did successfully find a pair of jeans that fitted my 'hugh jass', in Topshop. They cost about £36 (£40 without a student card) and are perfect for my pear shape figure. They are flared at the bottom, which is perfect for balancing out my wide thighs.

They are quite out of my comfort zone, as I normally go for straight leg trousers, or skinny jeans, but now I have finally found jeans that suit me.

Today I wore it with a brown belt, as they are a bit baggy, a simple white vest, a bright abstract print scarf, and gold open toe flats (pictures to come soon).

Now I want a pair in a darker colour to wear with wedges for a more evening look.

Makeup mash-up

Today was a good day!
I went into the newsroom expecting to settle into my boring routine of dissertation, stress, eat, dissertation, etc, but instead I had a lovely day of girly gossiping and makeup talks.

Thank you to Holly (aka my makeup master!), I have now updated my terrible makeup collection consiting of 99p scratchy superdrug brushes and some four year old bronzing balls. Oh the shame...

I took her advice and treated myself to a Lily lolo mineral foundation, it cost about £12 for a 10g pot online, and I got a few testers with that too, because I'm so indecisive! I can't wait for it to arrive to give it a go.

I'm going to upload photos tomorrow of my purchases and of some new makeup looks with my lovely new stuff :D

Part 2- Emma's restyle

Part two of Emma's extreme makeover is here!
We didn't have much time on our hands, what with it being Easter, and only having a few days off. So we took a little trip to our favourite cheap but tasteful shop, H&M, as money is lacking for us students!
I wanted to show Emma that she didn't need to fork out for a whole new wardrobe to give herself a new look, instead I just selected a few new key pieces and mixed them all up to give a variety of different looks.
But what does she normally look like?! Here's Emma in her every day wear, which is always jeans, T-shirt, cardigan and (I saved the worst till last) shoes with socks. Tut tut Emma! She always looks lovely, but now it's time to try and dress for spring and make her feel more feminine.

The only place for those shoes and socks is the bin!!

And here are her new clothes....

Outfit 1- Dinner and drinks

This outfit is quite out of Emma's comfort zone as it is a loose smock top and it has a very feminine floral print. It complements her shape and adds some much needed detail to her style. The V neck flatters her slim neck and gives a perfect amount of cleavage. Also, I have put her in some straight leg trousers instead of jeans which Emma loved as they gave her a bum and fit nicely around her legs. She doesn't normally wear heels but heels are a must with these trousers. They make her legs even longer, plus because they are wedges they are more comfortable, and the gorgeous purple matches the print in the top.

Outfit 2- Holiday and night out

Such a simple top but an effective look. We kept the shoes as they are very flattering, and paired them with a light dress and a bright flower corsage. The neckline is perfect for smaller busts, and it skims past the tummy which is again very flattering.

Outfit 3- Daywear

To make this outfit more suitable for day-wear i rolled the dress up to make it a top and tucked it into a pair of reasonably high wasted shorts, which fit Emma's shape perfectly. Of course we had to keep the perfect shoes because they went with everything, and the flower accentuates the spring theme.

4- The shoes!

Perfect shoes! Courts elongate the legs, bright colours and wedges are both key pieces this spring, open toe gives a playful, girlie feel, and, most importantly, they are comfy! Hurrah!

Part 1- Emma's new face

OK so part one of the the mass makeover of my very best friend, Emma, involved a total makeup refresh.

She is luckily very naturally pretty, but she's not a girly girl and doesn't care much about makeup or trying new looks.

First things first I got her to take off all her makeup and bravely show what she was like before....

I wanted to make her look a bit more fresh faced and girly for the spring. First off all I straightened her hair and smoothed it over with a round brush. Then I gave her a french plait type crown through the top of her hair, to take some weight off as she has very long, thick hair.

Then I started on the makeup. I applied a light foundation to her skin with my fingertips, and concealer on blemishes with a sponge. I went for a really pink blusher as she has quite a pale complexion and I wanted to warm it up a bit without making her look orange.

Emma has lovely blue eyes and I wanted to accentuate them, so I started with a blue/green eye liner and smudged it under her eyes and on her eyelids.

I also used a pale blue eye shadow over the lids and white on the inside corners to really make the eyes stand out. I finished it with lots of mascara to make her eyes as big as possible.

I've just been reading about Gok's return. Thank god, that means Mylene can back off for a while (I hope)! Oh, and I also read that Trinny and Susannah's contract has run out, so no more What Not to Wear, or Undress the Nation, for a while. Or even forever. *Sobbs quietly to self*.

I've just done it (only took two minutes) and of course it told me I was a pear, which I already knew. BUT, it also told me all kinds of things, like what colours work best with my skin tone, what hair styles suit my face, and even gave me direct links to lots of options of things I could buy right there and then! Smooth, Wan, very smooth.

Dressing for your shape

Apologies for this mammoth post, but there's a lot to cover!
Hopefully you will have read my previous post, Apples or Pears? before reading this, so you now know your shape and want to find out what suits you best!
Here are the most common shapes (which are also the trickiest to choose clothes for) and some advice on what to look out for, and what to avoid.
Apple shape
Most 'apples' will find that their best feature is their large breasts, so they show them off. Rightly so apples, but don't forget that your legs can be accentuated too. Best things to wear as an apple are wrap around tops and dresses, V necks (with support- you don't want excessive boob display!), simple tank tops paired with open mid length jackets, waist sinching belts and no big bold prints. You want to make the most of your curves by accentuating the best bits, and concealing the rest. Don't think that trousers don't look good on apples because they can! Wide leg trousers and boot cut jeans will give your legs a longer look, and they look great with some sexy wedges. Very spring!

Pear shape
Attention, pears! You should steer clear of drain pipes and slim fit trousers, unless you want to draw attention to your biggest parts. You need to balance out your figure so things are more proportional. This can be achieved by wearing things that accentuate the top half of the body like bright colours, bold prints and wide necklines, but stick to dark simple colours on the bottom half. A common feature of the 'pear' is a generous sized bottom! Great for the men, but not great for high wasted trousers, or detail on pockets, this will only make it appear wider. Ideal outfits include halter neck tops, dark boot-cut trousers and slim heels (chunky shoes only make the calves seem larger).

Hourglass
As an hourglass, you should show off curves without flashing too much flesh. Avoid tight, clingy fabrics as these will over emphasise any lumps and bumps. Instead, stick to items like A -line fitted skirts which are straight enough to show off curvy hips but don't cling too much to the thighs. To accentuate smaller waists wear thick waist belts, and tops with deep V necklines. Avoid Stilettos and opt for open toe court shoes, as these make legs appear longer and slimmer. The secretary look works best on hourglass figures, think low cut blouses and pencil skirts, but be selective when chosing materials so as not to look trashy.

Apples and pears

Size is a massive issue when choosing clothes, and many of us never know what size we actually are, let alone what outfits best suit our bodies.

Thanks to Trinny and Susannah, who managed to find a massive 12 different types of body shapes, it is possible to find things that will flatter whatever bit about you that you want to accentuate or hide.
Instead of just apple, pear and hourglass shapes, they added shapes like the brick, vase, cornet, lollipop, goblet, cello, bell, column and skittle.
In their book, 'The Body Shape Bible', which I found myself flicking through for hours earlier, they manage to find a woman for every shape and find her outfits that really worked. I thought I would share a few of them on here, for anyone who is confused about their size and wants to know what they actually are before trying to find the right clothes.
Apples= Wide torsos (full bust, waist and upper back). If an apples put on weight it is likely to stick to their stomach, chest and sometimes on the arms creating bingo wings. Apples are always top-heavy.
Pears= Child bearing hips, and big bums but little boobs and flat stomachs. Sadly for pear shapes like myself, the bottom half is almost always out of proportion to the small top halves.
Hourglass= Womanly. Hourglass women have big boobs and curvy waists and they really should make the most of what they are given because it is arguably the most flattering shape to be.
Bricks= Unfortunately masculine with flat bums, broad shoulders and no waist.
Vases= Basically a stretched out version of the hourglass. These are easier to dress as the body doesn't curve quite so severely.
Skittles= Similar to pears, but instead of suffering from big hips, skittles have more weight slightly lower down on their thighs. The top half is fairly long and lean but the weight is all stuck around the chunky thighs.
Cornets= Athletic frame, slightly tomboyish with broader shoulders but perfect for the catwalk.
Lollipops= Top heavy, big boobs and little everywhere else. The envy of curvy girls who want to keep their boobs but loose the rest of their shape.
Goblets= Big boobs, tummies and broad backs balanced on long, slender legs. Like apples goblets are also top heavy, but it is easier for them to take the focus away from their top halves by showing off sexy slim legs.
Cellos= Exaggerated features so, again, big top halves and bottom halves, but bums and thighs are slightly wider than the chests. Like the hourglass but an exaggerated version.
Bells= Petite women who have expanded throughout the years. Their once big round bottoms have become disproportionally large and their bodies have suffered from the 'middle aged spread'.
Columns= Tall with long limbs and evenly distributed weight. Most column's don't have very big boobs or bottoms and are simply straight up and down.
